How much safety you can face when you get access to online poker games? Digital security consulting firm ReVuln has discovered the possibilities for online poker cyber attacks; it came out that the client-side software is the weak part of online poker security. The security firm said that this one is “the only part of the infrastructure which is fully available to an attacker”. And because of this weaknesses many hackers can find their way in to attack the online poker world’s users.
With a serious research ReVuln discovered the lack of Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) connections during updates, leaving an open door of opportunity for hackers to climb right through it.
Another weak point is the password storage: the firm also stated that the all storage process is giving another huge opportunity to wide-eyed hackers; we would never expect it but it looks like some of the big names, such as gaming giant Microgaming and Playtech’s iPoker, were found to be using insecure HTTP connections for updates. This unfortunate surprise makes them vulnerable to cyber criminals!
ReVuln’s findings cannot be ignored, but let’s clear it all out: this company sells its findings to government agencies and private customers, but it doesn’t necessarily inform the software companies about the vulnerabilities and weaknesses its investigations reveal. Why is ReVuln acting like this? Speaking of that, Malta-based B3W admitted that, during their twelve years of business, they didn’t receive a single report of a compromised customer account concerning the platform. So maybe the weak points of this business could not be so weak! B3W has investigated the findings and they have already rectified many of the issues: this is the prove that the online poker world takes security very seriously!
